West End Appeal

The West End of All Saints Church

Our Grade I Listed Church stands where successive churches have been built since the 9th Century. The west end façade of the church was altered several times over the centuries and there is an ongoing programme of restoration of the entire building.

Why we needed to extend

The most significant early element of the west end is the 12th Century door surround, which has weathered. We gained approval to build an extension between the buttresses.

As you can see the extension now provides much needed protection for the door, while future-proofing our church with the addition of on-site toilet facilities, useful storage and a new entrance lobby.

The Official Opening

The Official opening of the West End entrance and the new facilities took place on Sunday 21st January 2024. Bishop Paul came and congratulated the community for all their hard work in fundraising for this new essential facility. The service was followed by a ribbon cutting and celebrated with lunch in the church by the congregation and key members of the team who made it all happen.

The Fundraising

The project was managed and funded by the All Saints and St Mary’s Charity, which  set aside significant funds to cover the initial costs. A further 25% of the costs were  covered by grants from Trusts and Foundations.   Our local community was asked to raise the final £50,000 to help us meet our target.

This table shows some of the costs to complete the project.

A huge THANK YOU to all the supporters who gave so generously to this appeal.

The names of individuals and groups who gave £500 or more to this Appeal will be recorded (with their permission) on a board that will be hung in the entrance of the  west end of the church.
